At the start of this new decade, beginning from this New Year, people will begin to drive conversion on how our real world and this new digital reality should safely and productively intersect.

Here are top tech trends that will impact the way people and things interact in 2020;

Green innovations:

With the effect of climate change evident everywhere, no one will be satisfied with empty words, anymore. In 2020, we will see green innovations go beyond the hype, using combinations of IoT, big data and AI tech to produce reusable shopping bags, measure consumption, reduce demand and significantly reduce carbon footprints while cutting costs and building new revenue streams. Telcos will encourage their equipment vendors to use recycled raw materials, renewable power, responsible minerals, provisioning new modes of transportation and sustainable packaging to save mother earth.

What will drive success in the coming year is “green.”

Let’s start with the proliferation of 5G. This will increase the number of connected devices and mainstream IoT applications to a great scale. A basic example is the growth of connected health, medical and communications devices attached to our bodies.

In 2020, the world will see the need for higher performance from edge computing hardware as better sensors and larger AI models now enable a host of new applications. There is a growing need to infer more data and then make decisions without sending data to the cloud. High-performing AI chips, like “neuromorphic” or brain chips will be built and released to mimic the structure of ​​the brain and process top AI algorithms. Life will be faster than ever.

Mankind will begin its return to space in 2020. This will be largely driven by the private sector. Notable companies now making aerospace advancements to enable man live in the habitats aside earth. More developed nations like China, Russia, and the U.S among others are seen to be making progress in space.

More robots will be built and sold to till the soil, add ferterizer, test the health of crops, harvest plants and fruits. Autonomous driving is already a hot topic, although not fully realized, companies like Tesla have produced cars that can be switched to autopilot mode on the highway. Major improvements will be made in this sector from level 2 to level 5 where no human assistance will be needed and crashes reduced to the barest minimum.

As blockchain grows, payment-type venture companies and venture companies in are attracting attention. In 2020 experts forecasts that major institutions will introduce blockchain to prevent large-scale information leakage and Internet fraud.  For example, China has approved the introduction of blockchain in services such as  Alibaba Group, China Southern Airlines and others.

Brace up! These technologies and more will change the world in 2020. While there are concerns about workforce impact, there is little doubt that 2020 will be a time of innovation and people are advised to position themselves and their businesses to leverage these technologies.
