Since towels are not bought as frequently as clothes it is important you treat them to last longer for you. Plus, towels can host a huge number of bacteria that comes back to haunt you.

So, IBIENE curated the best tips to help you keep that towel feeling fluffy for longer.

Wash often:

Most people do not wash their towels enough! The old rule of thumb was to wash every 3 days but it is better to now wash your towel after every three uses. However, if you reside in a hot and humid environment, you need to wash them more often to stop bacteria from growing. Hand towels must be washed daily. It’s best to have two to three sets so that you rotate so one towel isn’t being overused.

Air after each use:

To stop your towel from smelling, always hang your towel up after each use – each on a hook or rail so they can really air.

Wash before the 1st use:

Please wash your newly bought towel. Here’s why; many manufacturers add softener to towels to make them feel luxurious. If you don’t wash this off, your brand new towel just won’t work well. Wash at 40c using a regular biological detergent. Also, add one cup of white vinegar to the rinse to remove all softeners.

Don’t tumble dry:

Hanging towels to dry naturally comes highly recommended. Shake the towel after washing to stop it from feeling stiff when dry.

When to replace:

Bath towels live a long life! With constant use, they’ll become worn and threadbare, especially towels with a loose weave. We recommend you prolong the life of your towel by having two to three sets so that you rotate them equally. That way you won’t need to replace towels more than every two to four years.

For towels and sensitive skin:

Sensitive skin reacts most times when it comes in contact with certain household products, or suffering from chronic/painful conditions such as eczema or contact dermatitis. Use towels made from natural, breathable fabric such as cotton and wash them regularly, using non-bio detergent if you prefer. Summarily, you need to stop your towels from getting rough and becoming abrasive.

Load towels separately:

Washing towels with clothes is a no-no! Wash bath towels separately from other materials for sanitary reasons. Put towels in their own load to make it easier to adjust what setting to wash towels, especially, based on colour. It also makes it easier to dry towels in the same load since damp towels dry slower than most clothes.

Follow care instructions:

Good-quality bath towels can last for years with proper care. Follow the label on your towels for particular care instructions before proceeding with washing and drying.

With these tips, you can change the look and feel of your towel and save yourself the embarrassment when friends visit or use your convenience.
