Diamond is the hardest natural substance on Earth. It can cut any kind of rock or metal, but only another diamond can cut a diamond.

Here’s a fact. To burn a diamond, it must be heated to between 1290-1650 degrees Fahrenheit. Yet the oil deposited from the mere touch of a human finger can cause dirt to collect and make this nearly indestructible gemstone quickly lose its sparkling appeal.

This is why those who safe keep these diamonds are professionals and they always keep it looking its very best?

Do you want to know how to keep that precious stone of yours? Here are some tips on keeping your diamond sparkling;

Handle Your Diamond Sparingly:

Diamonds are natural magnets for grease which makes them challenging to keep clean. When a diamond is handled, the oils from your fingers stick to the diamond’s surface and affect its brilliance and fire.

Clean Your Diamond Regularly:

A simple plan to keep your diamond jewellery looking beautiful is to soak it in a gentle degreasing solution, such as water with a few drops of mild dish soap, once or twice a week. After you remove the diamond from the cleaning solution, use a soft, clean toothbrush to remove any remaining dirt. The toothbrush should be new and reserved exclusively for cleaning the jewellery. Use it to clean hard-to-reach places like the back of the diamond, which tends to collect the most oil and dirt.

Handle with A Gentle Touch:

Fragile sections, like older prongs in antique jewellery, especially where the diamond is held in place by pressure from the shank, shouldn’t be vigorously scrubbed. So, be gentle with the toothbrush. After wash, just rinse your diamond with water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. If you’re working over a sink, make sure to close the drain.

Diamonds Aren’t Meant to Always Be Worn:

When it comes to precious stones like diamonds, it is important to know when to wear them and when to leave them in your jewellery box. Though diamonds can be worn even on a daily basis, they are not ideally suited for all occasions. Why wear a diamond when heading for a beach holiday? This is especially true in the case of diamond rings. Not only can sand and salt dirty your diamonds, salty water can also make your finger shrink and make it easy for a ring to fall off.

Diamonds Need Periodic Inspection:

With diamonds, you need to look after not just the stones but also the metal holdings that keep diamonds in place. Look at the prongs holding your precious stone and ensure that all of them are of equal length. If one of them is shorter than the others, it is time to take the piece to a jeweller. When it comes to diamond-studded rings, ensure that your ring fits well because if your ring is loose, your diamond will undergo more wear and tear.

Store Them Carefully:

Diamonds need to be protected not only against theft but also against natural occurrences that aid damage. When a diamond rubs against another diamond, the gemstones can scratch each other. Similarly, your diamonds may also scratch and damage any other jewellery they come in contact with. Once a diamond gets damaged, there is no way to restore its original sparkle. So, it is in your best interests to store each piece of jewellery individually and not to allow them to rub against each other. Invest in a fabric-lined jewellery case with individual compartments for all your diamond jewellery. Alternatively, you could wrap each piece of diamond jewellery in soft tissue.

Remember you either bought that precious stone with a lot of money or it was handed over to you by your parent. You also want to preserve it so it can last generations after you.
